Teacher... Diane Phillips,
Fairport, NY
rugsdp@rochester.rr.com
Creating hand-hooked art has been
Diane's passion for 13 years.
Specializing in Unusual Uses of Color
and Hooking Faces, both people and
animals, her favorite subjects. Eyes,
expression, skin tones, wrinkles,
high-lights, all conspire to tell a
story to the viewer. Hand-dyed wool
produces a depth and texture unlike any
other medium. Diane creates the portrait
and lets the story emerge.
Eight years ago she left corporate
America and now pursues art full time.
The Director of Hooked in the Mountains
Rug School at the Shelburne Museum in
Vermont (in conjunction with the Green
Mountain Rug Hooking Guild) for the past
seven years, she has also taught workshops
throughout the U.S., Canada and in
segments of "Uncommon Threads" an HGTV
network television series. Her work has
appeared in shows and museums in the
Northeast and her "5 of Hearts" rug has
traveled across the country in the
"Art" of Playing Cards exhibit.
Other works have been featured in
Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs XVII,
Hooked on Rugs by Jessie A.
Turbayne, Hooked Rugs Today by
Amy Oxford, Contemporary Hooked Rugs
by Linda Rae Coughlin and other
publications such as Rug Hooking
Magazine.
Featured
Teacher Exhibit... Each year

2009 Rug Hooking Challenge
"Puppy Love"...
Do you remember the very first time you
gazed into those big brown eyes? No, not your spouse or your
date in college….it’s your faithful companion and best buddy
that we’re talking about. That very special dog, kitty,
canary, potbelly pig, horse, llama, iguana, goldfish or
tarantula, just to name a few! Whether they have fur,
feathers or fins, our pets are an important part of our
lives and families. Create a tribute to these noble beasts,
use your imagination; it could be a hooked rug, purse,
pillow or maybe even a three-dimensional hooked critter. Now
that’s real "Puppy Love"! Send a picture of your pet, so
that we may display it with your hooked piece. This
challenge is open to patterns of your choosing or original
designs to go along with our theme... it is not required
that you hook one specific pattern or design.
-
"Celebration Rugs XIX"... Rug
Hooking Magazine...

Adaptations are not to be included in the "original"
category. |
