Dear Quilting Friends,

As I write this letter on Wednesday evening, my head is swimming with colorful visions of all the fabric swatches that Glora Belle and I handled today. We attended a fabric show in Shipshewana and there were literally thousands of new fabrics to choose from! Some tough choices had to be made, but I am confident that you will love our selections, which will be arriving continuously between now and November. We always try to shop with you, our customer, in mind so in a way you could consider us your personal shoppers! Stop in often and let us know which fabric lines are your favorites.

New Fabrics Now

Recent new fabric arrivals at Threads of Tradition include the first of our holiday fabrics with many more expected to arrive in June. Golden Harvest and Simply Spooky II from Red Rooster comprise the newest fall and Halloween fabrics in the store. Christmas and winter fabrics include Robert Kaufman’s Holiday Flourish, Moda’s Birchwood Lane, the Secret Santa panel and coordinates from Benartex and Twelve Days of Christmas panel and coordinates by Nancy Halvorsen. We also have Nancy’s new book that features this fabric line as well as a pattern that celebrates the "12 Days of Christmas" with a delightful new take on this holiday tradition. If you are looking for a quick, attractive flannel quilt or comforter, Nickel Blox by Red Rooster may be the perfect answer. Both the bright colors and the deep, rich version are printed in six-inch squares for either quilting or knotting. You have to see these flannels to appreciate the richness of the colors.

Violetta, as seen in the quilt pattern Violet Handkerchiefs is also in stock. This pattern uses a stacking and fussy cutting technique to create a variety of different blocks from the border print. Blocks will vary from quilt to quilt. The fun is in the surprise!

The very popular Fruit Ladies fabrics were back in stock but the "stripe" pattern is already sold out again. I have three more bolts on order and it should be arriving any day, so don’t give up hope, we’ll have some for you very soon.

Nifty Notions

If you love making, owning, or giving colorful, fun purses, Lazy Girl has a neat solution for the problem of making and stitching through the bulky tabs or loops needed to attach purse handles. Just stitch Handy Tabs ready-to-sew fabric strips into a seam or onto a surface to attach purse handles, swivel clips, "D" rings, charms or to make loops to hang small quilts. Handy tabs come in ten different basic and designer colors to match any project.

At only $3.25 each, these multi-purpose Craft Totes are a great buy. Six outside pockets provide convenience for storing and organizing materials for quilting, sewing, scrap booking and other crafts. Approximately 8" x 10" x 8" deep, they are available with purple, navy or hunter green pockets.

Kits Prepared for You at Threads of Tradition

Robins egg blue and pink Lakehouse fabrics sewn into our version of Acorn Quilts’ Emma pattern is a real eye-catcher in the shop entrance. The cherries in the print remind me of a picnic or a summer kitchen. At 57" square, Emma would make a cheery tablecloth to refresh your spirits on a hot summer day.

Also in the entrance area is another colorful new quilt top using bright solid colors and a fun "paint splashed" background. Echo Stars is a fat quarter quilt that goes together quickly, especially when you use the Flying Geese x 4 No Math ruler to speed up the process of making the flying geese units. If you haven’t seen how this handy ruler saves both time and fabric, ask for a demonstration the next time you visit us.

For those of you who attended our annual Quilt Fair, we have completed the Snake River Log Cabin quilt that was in the process of being hand quilted at that event. It is now hanging in the shop for your inspiration and we have cut kits so that you can make your own version of this very special log cabin quilt.

Also, Sallies Quilt, the Civil War era quilt that served as the piecing demonstration at Quilt Fair is ready to be pinned into the quilting frame. Come and see how hand quilting enhances the pieced design. Kits are also available for this wonderful reproduction quilt.

Simple to Sensational Batiks includes quilts arranged from easy to intermediate to challenging, all of which highlight the unique nature of batik fabrics. Using repeating elements throughout the book, Lynda Milligan and Nancy Smith have made it possible to start with a simple quilt or technique and then finish with a sensation quilt using the same elements and techniques. Of course, you can dive in anywhere base on your own quilting experience and personality!

Included in Time for a Chain II are two block sizes for Single, Double and Triple Irish Chains, six detailed charts with 3 or 4 quilt sizes each, and easy-to-follow cutting and stitching diagrams plus border and binding instructions for a perfect finish.

Big News!

I can't believe that last month I forgot to tell you my most important news... I'm a grandma again! Jarett David Rufenacht was born at the stroke of midnight on April 17 and weighed exactly 9 pounds. He is now 7 weeks old and growing so fast that he has really changed from the one-week-old picture shown here. He still has lots of dark hair and can now focus on your face while he tries to communicate with lots of squirming and face making that accompany his attempts at speech.

Big brother Titus is 2 1/2 and has adapted very well to the competition for attention - especially since he now gets to spend most of his afternoons on the farm with his daddy! That also pleases us as grandparents because we get to see more of him as well.

Summer days, when it's too hot or muggy to be outdoors, is a great time to play in your nice, cool sewing room and create some fun. When you are out and about, or if you come this direction on your vacation, be sure to stop in and see what's happening at Threads of Tradition. We'll keep the air conditioning on for you!

                            See you soon! Linda
