Historic Village Happenings...

From winter classes and shopping to wonderful dining opportunities – Sauder Village is a destination of choice offering year round opportunities! As the seasons change, the corn shocks and pumpkins throughout the Village are soon replaced with Christmas trees and holiday lights. Although the Historic Village will open for the 2009 season on April 28, there are still LOTS of reasons to join us during the winter months. The special events at the Barn Restaurant, tasty treats from the Doughbox Bakery and unique shopping opportunities should keep you coming back again and again. Plan a visit to discover all the history, hospitality, creativity and fun that we have to offer.

As a non-profit organization, volunteers play a key role at Historic Village. There are opportunities to help with educational programming, special events, gardening, retail, quilting, collections and more. Your Place for Great Shopping...
From exquisite pottery and glass to handcrafted baskets, brooms, tin and more... Sauder Village is the place to find that unique gift this season. There are also gifts for the home, potpourri, an amazing assortment of Gift Boxes that reflect the special experiences found at Sauder Village, or let us customize a Gift Box for you. Gift certificates are also available. Or, there is the gift that keeps on giving... for an entire year... a Sauder Village membership.

Shop Talk... Have you ever wondered who is the one responsible for the vast array of unique and quality merchandise available in the many retail shops at Sauder Village? For the past 11 years, Leslie Hartman has served as the Retail Manager / Buyer for Sauder Village. In addition to her wealth of retail experience, Leslie has also helped to make our retail shops known on a national level through her involvement in the Museum Store Association. An international organization, MSA helps advance the success of cultural commerce by helping retail professionals better serve their own organizations and the public. We are pleased to announce that Leslie Hartman has been elected to serve as Second Vice President of MSA for 2008-2009 and will eventually move into the role of President of this association that serves nearly 1,650 institutions around the world. This is a true vote of confidence for Leslie and our retail shops here at Historic Sauder Village.

At the Doughbox Bakery... The drive-thru window offers a convenient way to enjoy some home-made treats and a hot cappuccino this winter... give it a try!

Let us help you celebrate the holidays with heart or shamrock-shaped butter cookies or even a big chocolate chip cookie. And be sure to place your order early for rolls, bread, pies or your favorite Easter treat.

Be sure to keep a supply of our frozen pies and cookie dough in your freezer for those last minute desserts you might need this holiday season! Whether it is a quick batch of cookies for a 4-H bake sale or a delicious pie for a fellowship dinner at church... our frozen products can provide you with piece of mind. Throughout the season, be sure to pick-up one of our frozen ice-cream pies or try some of our fresh fruit pies that change with the season.

* Fundraising... Is your ball team, 4-H Club or church youth group looking for a way to raise some money? Why not sell frozen cookie dough or pies from the Doughbox Bakery? Our Gift Boxes with canned meats, jams and jellies are also quite popular. Not only will you be selling a quality product for your fundraiser, each purchase will also help support the educational mission of non-profit Sauder Village.
